Patent training – inventions and innovations in scientific work

Contents

Scientific papers and research findings also contain inventions and teachings that are relevant to patents. Through publications and public lectures, these become part of the public domain and can be used by anyone free of charge. Previously filed patent applications, on the other hand, give the inventor and the university a monopoly in the form of an exclusive right of use and prohibition.

Many scientists at the university refrain from filing patent applications, e.g. because they are unaware of the significance of their invention, because they do not know how to proceed, or because they shy away from the effort involved.

The training provides information on both the step "from idea to patent" and the path "from patent to product":

  • How can I recognise an "invention"?
  • What types of intellectual property rights are there?
  • What is the economic significance of intellectual property rights?
  • How can I find and use patent literature for my own work?
  • Ways of marketing scientific work
  • Dealing with innovations and patent management at universities

Participation fee

Participation in the training is free of charge for scientists, university staff and students throughout Germany. The
project is funded by the BMBF's GO-Bio initial programme. Please register using the email address of your university or institution.

Please note that your registration is binding. You may cancel your registration up to three days before the course begins without giving a reason.

This event is suitable for master's students, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and all academic staff from the life and natural sciences, medicine and related fields who want to further develop their applicable ideas or inventions, ideally to the point of commercial marketing.
